Western Area Multipurpose Home

The Western Area Multipurpose Home involved the transformation of an aging detention center into a state-of-the-art juvenile correction facility. The building was completely gutted to the shell, expanded with a new day room as well as new bedrooms, restrooms, kitchen, and staff support area. Green initiatives were incorporated into the design, including, solar hot water, the use of natural daylighting, and careful selection of fixtures and finishes. The project was completed by the Central Engineering-Inmate Correction Program which utilizes inmate labor for a vast majority of the trades.
